The "Kaibutsu Gahon" (Gadget Book of Monsters), which is said to have been compiled in the Edo period, depicts a Mikoshi Nyudo appearing on a street at night and growing larger to meet the viewer's gaze. Its sinister expression and strangely elongated body vividly reflect the people's views on the supernatural and the social trends of the time, leaving a strong impression with its fear and strangeness.
