In his "Gyosai Gadan" (Gyosai Paintings), Kawanabe Kyosai, who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era, depicts Ebisu and Benzaiten as gods who bring good fortune. Ebisu, holding a fishing rod and a sea bream, is a symbol of prosperous business and abundant catches, while Benzaiten, gracefully playing a biwa, is depicted as the goddess of music, wisdom, and fortune. Kyosai's delicate brushwork and vivid depictions highlight the fusion of popular beliefs and art, reflecting the hopes and awe of the people of the time.
